Spider spotting in Steenbok Nature Reserve

The best time to look for spiders in winter is between 7.30 am and 9.30 am when the dew is still heavy on their webs.

Spiders are not hard to find in Steenbok, walk along the paved pathway and you will soon notice hundreds of webs in tall grasses.

Our team of keen spotters found four different varieties of these eight legged creatures.

Molly found a Masked Vlei Spider (Leucauge festiva)

Martina And Philipp from Littlewood Gardens managed to spot a spider from the gea genus.  Gea is a genus of spiders in the family Araneidae.

… And Diana found a Banded Garden Spider (Argiope trifasciata) and a Dark Sheetwebber spider (euprosthenopsis pulchella)
