LIRA and the Friends of Steenbok Trust are pleased to announce the appointment of Kerry Evans as the new Chairperson of the Steenbok Management Committee. An Island resident and member of the LIRA Committee, Kerry has a degree in Botany and Zoology, and has a keen interest in the wellbeing of the Reserve.
Keith Hollis has agreed to remain as Chairperson of the Trust, and will be able to provide invaluable support and leadership in terms of the founding principles of Steenbok.
Kerry will lead a team comprising representatives of the Municipality, SANParks, LIRA and the Trust, and with current volunteer members filling the portfolios of Finance, Public Relations, Membership, Horticulture, and Projects. It is an indication of the huge amount of time and effort that Roger put into Steenbok that a skilled and dedicated team is required to maintain the standards he set for the Reserve!
Sadly Steenbok remains closed during this phase of the lockdown, but Kerry and the team are busy putting plans in place for ‘business-as-usual’ once the restrictions are lifted.
We are eagerly looking forward to the day when we can all once again enjoy the tranquil pleasures of the Reserve, and also hold an appropriate farewell function for Roger.
