While walking along Links Drive, following the Government’s regulations, I came across this tree which is recovering beautifully from the on-going alien clearance.
To find Sersia laevigata (Dune currant), walk along the edge of Links Drive, past the Tennis Club towards the tip of the Reserve.
This multi-stemmed deciduous shrub or small tree is often seen on dense stands and on coastal dunes. The leaflets are widely obovate, to occasionally lanceolate, finely rolled under. The bark smooth, grey brown, with or without spines. The tree is currently busy showing off its fruit which are almost round and will turn russet red when fully ripe.
