INTRODUCTION
This newsletter focuses on Steenbok Nature Reserve’s finances, and answers the questions:
● Where do our funds come from?
● How are the finances used in the management of the Reserve?
THE 2024/25 TAX YEAR IS NEARING ITS END…
You will see below that we rely heavily on contributions from the Friends of Steenbok Nature Reserve for the upkeep and maintenance of the Reserve.
Are you a contributing Friend of Steenbok Nature Reserve? And/or would you like to be?
● If so, have you deposited the 2025 contribution yet? (R600 per year, or R50 monthly, or whatever figure you choose). Please see our banking details below.
● Do you need a 2024/25 Section 18A Tax Certificate?
If so, do we have your relevant information which SARS requires? (contact number, residential address, ID number). If we do not yet have these, please send your relevant information to Ingrid Meter ingridmeter13@gmail.com so she can get your Tax Certificate to you before the end of February.
Steenbok Nature Reserve is a Public Benefit Organization in terms of Section 18A of the Income Tax Act 1962. As such, all contributions are tax deductible.

WHERE OUR FUNDS COME FROM:
As can be seen, the main source of our funds (32%) comes from Membership – people who are Friends of Steenbok Nature Reserve. Their ongoing support is critical in enabling us to keep the Reserve in a pristine condition. A big thank you to them. We are also grateful for the support from Leisure Isle Residents Association (27%) and Knysna Municipality (19%).
HOW THE FUNDS ARE USED:
Our two top cost items are Garden Maintenance (41%), which covers the costs of garden services, alien clearing, and irridgation. Litter Management (16%) covers the servicing of the 30 bins in the Reserve, each of which is emptied twice a week. We provide sixty thousand doggy litter bags each year!
Our main projects (18%) for 2025 are:
.
Repairs to the seawall
Repairs to the water pump in the aquifer area
Repairs to the uneven paved pathway
Clearing invasive vegetation at
Kingfisher Creek and Land’s End – link to extent of work in this area
