Leonotis leonurus

This tall and fast growing roughly hairy shrub is found all over the Steenbok.  It is composed of erect branched stems with pungent smelling and narrow leaves. Above these leaves are spherical inflorescences of orange-red velvety, nectar rich flowers which are loved by many birds especially sunbirds. The nectar and pollen are also sought after by honey bees and other insects. After flowering, the seeds are scattered around the parent plant as it is shaken by the wind.
