Coleonema album

This showy buchu carries oil glands on the underside of the leaves making them sweet smelling. It grows well in domestic gardens on Leisure Isle forming a lovely compact shrub. The flowers literally cover this bush, turning it into a stunning white plant. The fruit appear towards the end of November and eject the seeds by a catapult system.

The direct translation from Afrikaans is : bate bush, the fishermen use tis plant to rid of the smell of bate on their hands.
