Agathosma capensis
This evergreen shrub grows to heights between 30 cm and 90 cm.
The usually smooth leaves are needle-like to oval, strongly spice-scented, especially when crushed.
This plant flowers throughout the year with a peak in winter to spring (July to November). The flower colours may vary from mauve, pink to white or a bluish purple.
The fruit capsule consists of 2 or 3 chambers and each chamber contains one black seed.
The common characteristic of the buchu family is the presence of translucent glands which contain aromatic oils found on the leaves and fruit.
