
Angulate tortoise
This is a medium-sized tortoise species in which males grow to approximately 27cm in length, whilst females may reach 21cm. The angulate tortoise is unique to South African tortoises in that it has the ability to ram and overturn others. This behaviour has earned it the reputation of being a ‘fighting tortoise’. This specimen was found someway west of the tennis courts in one of the fynbos areas and was extremely shy, as evidenced by the camouflage photograph featured below.
