Common NameFamily Name
Knysna Dwarf ChameleonBradypodion damaranum

This specie is endemic to Southern Cape. Chameleons with their distinctive shape, ponderous movements and tiny eyes at the end of conical turrets characterise an unmistakable reptile. Itís ability to change colour is very well known, but this is not done to match itís background, as commonly believed- although that might happen coincidentally Ė but as a means of communication and to regulate body temperature. The males are green whilst the females are brown to grey. Dwarf chameleons are viviparous which means they give birth to live young. Including the tail the males are approximately 12cm and the females smaller.
