Management Plan for 2010
This action plan was approved by the Advisory Forum and the LIRA committee towards the end of last year and continues to embrace the broad principles outlined in the 2008 Northern Shores Environmental Action Plan.
Objectives
Nurturing recently planted areas to bring the flora to a self sustainable stage
Introducing more information boards covering other topics of interest
Introduction of plant specie signs in the Indigenous Garden
New natural garden near the Horne Road intersection to be managed by nearby residents
Introducing more formality in the allocation of memory benches and trees
Implementation of programme to control Imperata cylindrica (cotton grass).
Expansion of www.steenboknaturereserv.org.za to include many more species and feature articles relating to the Reserve
Introduction of basic environmental courses for children
On-going maintenance to ensure continuation of standards set during the past year
Launching of 'Friends of Steenbok Nature Reserve'
Pursuing discussions with SANParks with a view to participation in the Garden Route National Park
Introducing 'spike water' exhibit with explanatory story boards explaining the underground aquifer system
Plan to remove alien grasses and other alien vegetation west of tennis courts
